OBESITY
Vivia's innovative research model can be extrapolated to other therapeutic areas. We believe that the high productivity attained by Vivia in hematologic cancers can be reproduced in order to identify valuable candidates for other diseases.
At present, Vivia is working on finding new treatments based on existing drugs for two diseases which are highly prevalent: Obesity and Autoimmune Diseases, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis.
The ExviTech technology allows one to evaluate for the first time the efficacy of thousands of drugs to induce fat loss in fat cells (adipocytes) in the safest manner possible, burning fat by producing heat (thermogenesis).
The major pharmaceutical companies have been trying to discover said drugs for the past 20 years without any luck, and the ExviTech technology is capable of identifying said drugs efficiently.
The result would be the most sought-after ideal drug against obesity and diabetes, attaining fat loss with the production of heat and hardly producing any toxic residue in the body, which is what happens during the common process of degrading fat chemically through lipolysis.
Professor Fernando Rodríguez de Fonseca, from Fundación IMABIS in Málaga, is head of this project.
